Greater than the sum of its parts?

I would not able to consider such a venture as this without the help, advice and support of all those contributing their generosity and kindness.

I will be visiting very many friends and family along my route. Some info about each of these is shown below.

Where from here?

I have also been fortunate to be supported in my venture by Dominic and many of the folks at wherefromhere. They have offered me considerable advice and have supplied to me a GPS unit for the duration of my venture, in order to take much of the guesswork out of navigating my way around country lanes and byways.

I have used Anquet mapping software extensively for planning my route through Great Britain. If I don’t get lost too often, it’s thanks to these people.

I am very grateful to the doctors, nurses and physiotherapists at Teddington Memorial, Chelsea & Westminster and Epsom General Hospitals who have worked so hard to help me to recover the last weeks.

Personal Acknowledgments

Over the course of my three week adventure I will be visiting, or staying with, the following fine folk:

Vicki Martin (photo awaited)

A former colleague from London Underground, Vicki debunked from London to explore the farther reaches of Great Britain and appears to have settled in for the time being in the town (or rather, city) of Dunkeld somewhere up north.

Byr and Brian Reeds (photo awaited)

The parents of a lovely friend, I am delighted to be staying with Birr and Brian for two nights on the trot, albeit broken by a 90 mile cycle ride.

Lousie Taylor
Louise Taylor

Our eyes met over the bustle of a crowded bus with a recognition of being the only two European folk in the vicinity, and a mutual need to escape the frenzy of the Rajasthan desert fair. Several hostels and countless camels later, I will be visiting Louise as part of my big UK adventure.

Louise is the one being somewhat embarrassed.

Laura Watson
Laura Watson

A friend from university, occasional dance partner, and “near-neighbour” of mine for several years. Laura has taken a plunge or two in Leeds and I’m going to drop by and see how she’s getting along.

Laura at our university graduation ball. Doesn’t that seem a long time ago?

Doreen Price Lynton
Doreen Price Lynton

A good friend of my grandfather for several years, Doreen has been a very welcome guest at family occasions that past few Christmases. I look forward to seeing her for the first time in her native Telford

Opening presents on Christmas day

Helen and Nigel Horner (photo awaited)

My Aunt and Uncle. I have very fond memories of visiting often to their house at holidays and at Christmases when much younger than I am now. No presents this time, but it will be lovely to visit them and to catch up.

Leo Pitt

A friend from secondary school. We were sat next to one another on the first day of school and have been firm friends for near-on 15 years. Leo never quite made it back to London after college and university and he’s due a visit from me!

At the climbing wall this Christmas just gone. Leo is the less hairy one!

Craig Lamberton
Craig Lamberton

Craig and I have been mountain biking since late 1999. After several trips away to the mountains of Europe and to Scotland, Craig will join me for two day’s riding between Bristol and Torquay

Ian and Cathy Harper (photo awaited)

Having moved back into my Mum and Dad’s House at the beginning of April, I’m sure they’ll be glad of the space whilst I’m gone, but I cannot imagine the joy I’ll feel when I meet them upon Land’s End over the mate May bank holiday weekend.

CCI’ll also take this opportunity to mention ChristieCustoms, a service offered by another wonderful member of goingdownillfast, and soon to be the world’s foremost custom paint job supplier. I was told a get a free paint job for that plug!!
